The Endocannabinoid System

Both humans and cannabis have an endocannabinoid system, not like the immune system, more like the gatekeeper of it. One of the magical facts about the endocannabinoid system is that it prevents the onset of overwhelming inflammatory responses that may result in disease. Simply put (but not so simple), the endocannabinoid system then feeds and nurtures the human immune system, and the central nervous system.

Endocannabinoid Facts

A few interesting facts about the system that lives inside of humans and cannabis:

  • The human body, through the endocannabinoid system, like cannabis, produces cannabinoids.

  • The main function of the human endocannabinoid system is to maintain bodily homeostasis.

  • Endocannabinoid receptors are present throughout the body. In skin, immune cells, bone, fat tissue, liver, pancreas, skeletal muscle, heart, blood vessels, kidney, and gastrointestinal tract.

It’s a little strange thinking about the prohibition of something that grows wild in both nature and in the human body.

What Endocannabinoid Research Says

The National Library of Medicine says this:

The endogenous cannabinoid system—named for the plant that led to its discovery—is one of the most important physiologic systems involved in establishing and maintaining human health. With its complex actions in our immune system, nervous system, and virtually all of the body’s organs, the endocannabinoids are literally a bridge between body and mind. By understanding this system, we begin to see a mechanism that could connect brain activity and states of physical health and disease.

Norml, quoted Dustin Sulak, DO, who stated:

“Research has shown that small doses of cannabinoids from cannabis can signal the body to make more endocannabinoids and build more cannabinoid receptors.”

The National Library of Medicine says reports the following regarding the endocannabinoid system and mental health:

“Studies carried out in humans have consistently demonstrated that the endocannabinoid system is fundamental for emotional homeostasis

Keep Learning

It will be beneficial to read beyond here to learn about the endocannabinoid system. It’s a vast system that is the root of human health and body functionality. We focus a lot on the central nervous system and immune system, and focus on the endocannabinoid system should be equal, if not more
